Volunteer roles include:
Support group facilitator
Support group facilitators create a safe and inclusive space for people with early-stage dementia or care partners to share their experiences and strategies for living well with dementia. Facilitators are people with discretion, empathy, strong listening skills and a belief in the capacity of peers to support one another. Support groups are held in-person or virtually and are offered in English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Farsi.
Education facilitator
Education facilitators establish a safe and welcoming environment for discussion and support while presenting education workshops to people affected by dementia, the general public and other audiences. Education workshops are held in person.
Minds in Motion® assistants
Minds in Motion® is a fitness and social program for people with early symptoms of dementia to enjoy with a friend or family member, designed to stimulate thinking, play, laughter and connection. Minds in Motion® assistants support the instructor and participants during both the fitness and social part of the program. Minds in Motion® is held in person or virtually and is offered in English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Punjabi.
Coffee and Chat assistants
Coffee and Chat is a social program designed to help clients meet new people, engage in social activities and have fun! Coffee and Chat assistants help with setting up games and activities, provide support and encouragement to participants and ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience. Coffee and Chat is held in person or virtually, and is offered in English, Cantonese and Punjabi.
Community outreach
Community outreach volunteers represent the Alzheimer Society of B.C. within their local community at conferences, information booths and other events. They engage with community members and provide information about our programs and services. Community outreach opportunities are in-person and volunteers who are fluent in English and additional languages are encouraged to apply.
Administrative support
Administrative support volunteers help staff at our resource centres deliver high quality services to local communities by taking care of many of the administrative details needed to provide caring, personalized, reliable support to our clients. Resource centres are located throughout the province and offer information, education and support to families living with dementia.
