The Leadership Group of People Living with Dementia is made up of passionate and dedicated advocates living with a diagnosis of dementia. They continue to be instrumental in much of the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s work, from advising the Society on various programs, projects and resources, supporting advocacy activities such as our Legislative Lunch and playing an instrumental role in the development of dementia-friendly communities initiatives. They engage communities and push forward our goal of goal elevating the voices of those with lived experience by sharing their experiences and seizing public speaking opportunities. The members of our Leadership Group of People Living with Dementia provide invaluable expertise, direction and accountability to the Society’s work by sharing their lived experience to make the most impact for people living with dementia. Craig Burns, Leadership Group of People Living with Dementia:
“Volunteering has been an integral part of my life. My parents volunteered in various capacities, modeling to me to ‘contribute, not to just receive’. I enjoy volunteering, and have participated in various capacities all through my adult life. I’m always learning, developing collaborative relationships and new friendships! It’s important to me to be a steward of my skills and experience.
“The Leadership Group of People Living with Dementia, of which I am a member, provides a significant voice to the Society’s leadership as well as accountability back to us. Our lived experience provides new ideas for meeting identified needs, expertise for decision making as well as potential new opportunities. We strive to be an effective resource and example to those seeking assistance and support. Maybe you would consider joining our group?”
