Event planning | Chair and Committee
Bring your leadership, problem solving and creativity to a dedicated team of volunteers who plan and implement our fundraising events including the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's, presented by Go Auto.
Our signature events are organized by committed volunteer committees who raise awareness and funds in their community.
As a Walk Chair, you’ll do more than plan an event — you’ll lead a team, rally your community and help change the way we experience dementia in BC and the Yukon. This is a chance to put your skills to work for something deeply meaningful, with support every step of the way.

- Lead your community’s Walk from November to May.
- Recruit and guide a team of volunteers.
- Oversee planning, timelines and logistics.
- Represent the Alzheimer Society of BC and Yukon locally.
- Get ongoing support from staff and national tools.
- Time commitment: ~two to four hours per week.
Locations: 19 communities across B.C.
- Abbotsford, Burnaby/New Westminster, Chilliwack, Comox Valley, Delta, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Nelson, Northern B.C. (Prince George), North Okanagan (Vernon), North Shore, Oceanside, Richmond, South Okanagan (Penticton), Tri-Cities and Ridge Meadows, Vancouver, Victoria and White Rock/Surrey.
Experience needed:
- Leadership and planning skills (event experience a plus, not required).
Support provided:
- Onboarding, role-specific training, event toolkit and ongoing mentorship.
Is this role right for you?
This role is challenging — and deeply meaningful.
We’re looking for volunteers who are ready to lead through complexity and community spirit. The ideal Walk Chair is:
- A strong communicator.
- Comfortable leading and motivating others.
- Organized and proactive.
- Passionate about making a difference.
- Ready to commit to a six to seven month volunteer project.
You don’t have to do it alone. We’ll be with you every step of the way.
