Applauding our Walk volunteers this National Volunteer Week

British Columbia

During National Volunteer Week, we are showcasing stories shared by volunteers and Society staff about how volunteers have made a difference for people living with dementia.

A big group of volunteers for the Walk gathered together and posing.

Last year, more than 680 volunteers helped to make the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s possible! Their efforts helped create an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone involved and helped raise over $1 million to support people affected by dementia in B.C.

Janet Hutzul, Development Officer for Events at the Society, explains why event volunteers are so essential: “The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is the Society’s flagship fundraiser, traditionally taking place in more than 20 communities across B.C. What some people may not know is that each of these events is organized by an amazing local volunteer committee. These volunteers are incredibly motivated, dedicated and passionate! They are integral to the success of our Walks and they help us fulfill our mission of supporting people affected by dementia. We simply could not do it without them and we are eternally grateful for their commitment and generosity.”

Every day during National Volunteer Week, we will share our volunteer’s favourite moments, experiences and memories. Keep visiting our website or follow us this week on FacebookTwitter or Instagram to read more and share your own experiences! #NVW2020 #CheersToVolunteers
