Call for nominations: Board of Directors with specific need for finance and audit experience

British Columbia

Apply to join our diverse Board of Directors and take part in the Finance and Audit Committee, who passionately brings experience and a rich skillset in finance, audit, risk, budgeting and governance skills.

Society-FMN

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is a province-wide not-for-profit organization with a mission to ensure people affected by dementia are not alone by educating and mobilizing a broader community of care around them and supporting valuable research into the disease and people living with it.

We are at an exciting time in the organization and are looking to bolster our existing Board. The Society has a governance board with ten members, as well as 100 staff and a budget of approximately $11.6 million. The Society’s range of activities includes providing programs and services, advocacy work, awareness-raising campaigns and enabling research. The Society works closely with the provincial government, Alzheimer Societies across Canada, researchers and communities of practice.

The voices and needs of people with lived experience are at the centre of what we do – and we take our guidance from them. We are carefully considering the lessons learned during these last two years of the pandemic: we’re better leveraging technology to deliver services to more people in more places while recognizing the value and impact of in-person services and understanding how we can best position our organization to be of service to British Columbians who are on the dementia journey.

The Opportunity

Recently we completed a recruitment process to engage three new Board members. We are now focused on attracting an individual with the potential to become the next Finance and Audit Committee (“FAC”) Chair. Presently, our board members include seven women and three men. As such, we are keenly interested in individuals with finance, audit, risk, budgeting and governance skills. Experience as an organization's Chief Financial Officer or a similar role would be particularly valuable. We also recruit with diversity in mind: gender, geographic, age and ethnicity.

The Board typically meets quarterly with an occasional ad-hoc meeting and provides governance direction and support to the Chief Executive Officer and leadership team. As well as sitting on the Board, directors will join one of the standing committees (either Finance and Audit or Governance and Human Resources), which also meets quarterly. There is also an expectation that directors will participate in an annual strategic planning session and fundraising and awareness events during the year.

The Process

Interested candidates are encouraged to learn more about our organization and can refer to our current strategic plan and our most recent annual report or review our website.

Candidates are asked to submit the following to Jennifer Hendren, Corporate Secretary, at jhendren@alzheimerbc.org:

  • Cover letter indicating why you are interested; and
  • Resume.

The deadline for submissions is no later than Friday, February 3, 2023.

The Nominating Committee will review submissions by the end of February. If selected, you will be contacted about the next steps.

We thank everyone for your interest in supporting the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
