From the North Shore to the summit: Neptune Terminals elevates community support at the Climb for Alzheimer’s
Once again, Neptune Terminals is proudly supporting the Climb for Alzheimer’s fundraiser at Grouse Mountain on Sunday, September 22. Their ongoing commitment to this highly anticipated event has helped make it a must attend for employees and community members alike. The Climb reflects the courage faced by people affected by dementia, while raising awareness and vital funds for the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
Nestled in the heart of North Vancouver, Neptune Terminals is a leading shipping company with deep local ties. Their focus extends beyond business, championing causes that resonate deeply within their community. True to their commitment, Neptune Terminals is eager to support the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s Climb for Alzheimer’s fundraiser at Grouse Mountain.
Since 2016, Neptune Terminals has been an enthusiastic sponsor of the Climb and their employees look forward to hiking up the Grouse Grind® each year. One of the driving forces behind the company’s involvement in the event has been Lisa Dooling, Director of People and Community at Neptune Terminals.
“Since I've been involved, I’ve really learned everybody has a family member or someone they know who’s affected by the disease,” says Lisa.
For Lisa, the Climb is more than just a physical challenge – it symbolizes the courage families face in what may feel like an uphill journey. She has consistently been amazed by the turnout and the sense of community that comes with it over the years. “Everybody’s there to rally around a common cause and show their support.”
Lisa and her colleagues will be forming a corporate team, excited to include a diverse range of participants – from athletes to people who have never attempted the Grouse Grind® before. “Dementia touches so many people in our workplace as well as in our community.” Lisa shares. “The camaraderie and the collective effort to tackle the Grouse Grind® together is truly inspiring.”
Recognizing not everyone may be up for the challenging hike, Lisa extends a special invitation to people to join the Summit Stroll, an accessible route that allows participants to enjoy the mountaintop exhibits and finish line festivities.
Neptune Terminals’ involvement in the Climb has had a profound impact on their company culture. It has raised dementia awareness, providing immense support for employees who have personal connections to the disease. Lisa’s advice to other businesses is to engage with what their employees care about and what’s important to them and their community. “Businesses have a responsibility to give back to causes that are aligned with their values,” says Lisa. “And that makes the communities they operate in a better, healthier and stronger place for everybody.”
As the final Climb for Alzheimer’s approaches, Neptune Terminals is calling on everyone in the Lower Mainland to join in this impactful event. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a first-timer, your participation will contribute to raising vital funds to support families on the dementia journey. Gather your friends, family and colleagues, and celebrate with hundreds of others on Sunday, September 22.
