Research participants wanted for UBC project with people living with dementia and/or family caregivers
The UBC research project led by Dr. Lillian Hung and Jim Mann, member of the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s Leadership Group of People Living with Dementia, is looking to develop and evaluate a mobile app to address the urgent need to reduce social isolation in long-term care and hospital settings.
The research project, “’What matters’ – A digital solution to support person-centred care for people with dementia in care settings,” is being led by Dr. Lillian Hung through the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Jim Mann, member of the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s Leadership Group of People Living with Dementia, who co-leads this research.
“What matters” will be an easy-to-use app offering a personalized list of resources (music, videos and photographs) that will enable staff to deliver person-centred care. It will also allow family members to upload or live stream music, photos and videos to support care for people living with dementia in a care setting.
Participants will take part on four online workshops, of about 1-2 hours in length, over the course of a year starting in the summer of 2021. Various levels of comfort with technology are welcome. At the end of the project, in early 20222, a review of the app prototype will take place. Anyone living with dementia and/or family caregivers are invited to participate.
