Below, you'll find information about in-person programs and support services available to people in Vancouver Coastal who are living with dementia or caring for someone who is. 

We also offer online programs for people who prefer to access support and education from home, which you can learn about here

Community programs

Registration is open for Ride & Stride summer program! In partnership with Cycling Without Age, join us for a trishaw ride in pairs, followed by a walking group. This social and recreational program is suitable for people living in the early stages of dementia and their caregivers. Participants will experience a leisurely trishaw ride with Cycling Without Age through Vancouver neighbourhoods and take part in a walking group in the Hillcrest area. Caregiver must attend.
Dates:
Group A (three pairs): July 22, August 5 and August 19 
Group B (three pairs): July 29, August 12 and August 26          
Time: Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.        
Cost: Free         
Location: Hillcrest Community Centre, meet at the east entrance, by the Blue Parrot Cafe.

Education 

Our in-person education programs empower people living with dementia, along with their families and friends, through knowledge and support. Unless otherwise noted, location details are provided upon registration. You can also learn more about our dementia education.

An Introduction to brain health (Mandarin) | It’s never too late to make changes for a healthier brain. Learn how to maintain or improve your brain health by exploring topics including natural aging changes, dementia, risk reduction, memory, brain training and more. For the general public.

Public health talk on brain health and dementia (Cantonese and English) | Join this session with Dr. Roger Wong to learn about brain health, different types of dementia and how to reduce the risks. Q&A session included.

Saturday, July 5 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. (Cantonese) and from noon to 1 p.m. (English)

Understanding and adapting to communication changes along the dementia journey (English) | A person’s ability to communicate will change over the course of the dementia journey. Learn how different types of dementia affect communication and discuss strategies for adapting to and coping with these changes. For caregivers

Coffee and Chat

We offer a social program to help caregivers and people living with dementia meet new people, engage in social activities and have fun. Learn more about the program.

Minds in Motion® 

Discover our in-person fitness and social program tailored for people with early-stage dementia to attend with a care partner, promoting wellness and connection. Learn more about the program.

Nine Wednesdays, July 2 – August 27 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Cost: $52.20 per pair for nine sessions.

Support Groups 

Dementia can leave people affected by dementia feeling isolated, but you don’t have to face it alone! Join our in-person support groups and connect with a community that understands you. Below are all support groups in your area. Learn more about our support groups.

Vancouver Coastal in-person caregiver support group

Open to anyone in the Vancouver Coastal area who is currently caring for a person living with dementia. Our caregiver support groups offer a safe place to learn about dementia and community resources. Connect with other family members on the dementia journey.

In-person early-stage support group
Open to people living with early symptoms of dementia to discuss the impact of the disease, share stories, experiences and learn from  one another about how to live well with dementia.
