With taxes due on April 30, 2024, the Alzheimer Society of B.C. has prepared our annual guide to income tax and benefits to provide some basic tips that may be useful for people living with dementia and their caregivers.

The tax guide collects relevant information for people affected by dementia who may already be stressed and uncertain what questions to ask when it comes to filing taxes. The information may also help point families to benefits that they are not aware of, including Canada caregiver credit and medical expenses.
Please note that the information provided in this tax guide is only a summary, with the purpose of alerting caregivers and people living with dementia about some options they may want to consider discussing with their tax preparer.

For complete information about any personal tax matters, we encourage individuals to contact the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) by calling 1-800-959-8281 or by visiting their website at alzbc.org/cra. Income tax rules are complicated and subject to change every year, so we encourage you to get professional help with your income taxes.
